Newton Labs announces next generation Machine Vision
for Independent Position Verification on steam
generator inspection manipulators.
Seattle, WA May 7, 2007- Newton Research Labs, Inc., a
Seattle based manufacturer of machine vision, robotics
and optical automation, today announced the
availability of next generation Machine Vision for
steam generator manipulators to replace the currently
deployed but almost 10 years old and now obsolete Zetec/Newton systems. The new generation systems,
while utilizing far faster and more efficient internal
hardware and software, are direct drop-in replacements
for the old systems and do not require any software or
physical modifications to replace the obsolete Newton
systems currently in service.
“Since 2005 when the current Newton Machine Vision systems became obsolete,
Newton has realized that a new generation system would be needed for the industry.
This is especially true now that the old systems can
not generally be supported” stated Mike Trask, Sales
Manager of the Newton Inspection Applications Group.
“Newton has developed and is introducing this new
generation system directly to the steam generator
industry” he added. Mr. Trask then went on to say
“There will be some advantages to the industry in more
efficient customer service and in lower purchase costs
for the users now that they can directly correspond
with and purchase through the manufacturer of these
systems.”
The new generation Model 9050 Newton Machine Vision systems are
specifically intended to be replacements for the
obsolete Model 9000/9001 systems currently deployed.
While utilizing more efficient and much higher speed
processors and completely different internal
algorithms, they are designed to interface to the
existing Zetec software in such a way as to make the
replacement invisible to the utility or service
provider. These next generation systems will bolt
directly into the place of the old obsolete systems
and thus do not need any physical or software
modifications when the replacement is made. In
addition, the new generation systems utilize the same
cameras Newton has always provided, thus negating any
requirement for modifications on the equipment used
inside the bowl.
